Designing for Family and Function

Modern bench cushions allow plenty of space to enjoy the appealingly soft hand of Crypton Performance Cotton, in a creamy white shade that keeps the space feeling light. “I love the design of the Sylvie Sectional,” says Uyen. “It’s cozy with the seamless cushions, and the color Cloud is a perfect neutral; it was so easy to design around.” A hint of pattern from the plush rug and throw pillows adds just the right amount of color and texture to the neutral surroundings. “I like to style a space in many ways,” Uyen says, “[since] mixing decor can freshen up a space, and I like my main pieces to be a grounding item to build upon.” As a family of six with four young children, the Carlsons’ main priority is kid-friendly style that is easily maintained and maximizes snuggle time. “In our season of life, comfortable seating for my family to spend time together” is the most important thing of all.
